Walsall Under-18s were back in EFL Youth Alliance — North action on Saturday morning as they welcomed Shrewsbury Town Under-18s to the Birmingham FA headquarters on Ray Hall Lane.

Arriving at the match on the back of a welcome 3-1 triumph over Salford City, their first win in four games, Ryan Simmonds' side were hoping to add another three points to their tally as they took on the Salopians in Great Barr.

Substitutes: Barber; Wain, Etheridge, Makavore, Gibson

Taking place in front of a smattering of onlookers, the match was one of few chances, with both sides happy to pass the ball around in search of an opening.

Walsall's biggest chance of the first-half saw forward Jaiy Leydon fire wide after getting into an advanced position, the youngster no doubt disappointed not to test the 'keeper.

The Saddlers had to wait until the second forty-five for their next chance of note, as substitutes Levi Wain and Paul Makavore combine before the latter saw an effort rise over the Shrews' crossbar.

Ultimately, the spoils were shared, though the result should be an encouraging one for the young Saddlers as they were able to avoid defeat to a near rival.
