PRE-MATCH NEWS & VIEWS
Winning just two of their last ten league games, the Saddlers have seen their once twelve point lead reduced to just two ahead of Saturday's meeting with the Mariners.
Going into the game on the back of a one-all draw with bottom-of-the-table Carlisle United, Sadler's side will be hoping to avoid a third game without a win, although the Saddlers will have their work cut out as they take on a side enjoying a rich vein of form that has seen them steadily close in on the Play-Offs, with Saturday's match providing them with an opportunity to jump up to 7th, should results go their way.
Walsall, on the other hand, have struggled to make their mark over recent weeks, with the confidence of their recent nine-hame winning streak a thing of the past, and in its place is a side that, though showing plenty of endeavour, simply can't put games to bed.
It's not all bad, however, as they're still in a strong position with every other club envying the position they find themselves in, though that won't continue to be the case if they don't get their act together, and soon!
Looking back at the aforementioned Mariners, and they're in fine form, having gone seven league games without defeat, with their most recent outing seeing them and Tranmere Rovers playing out a one-all draw in midweek.
WALSALL TEAM NEWS
Donervon Daniels, Priestley Farquharson, Jack Earing, George Hall, and Josh Gordon are still missing for the Saddlers, though Daniels and Farquharson are said to be closing in on a return to action.
Ellis Harrison is back in contention after missing the draw with Carlisle United through illness.

HEAD-TO-HEAD
There have been seventy-one competitive meetings between Walsall and Grimsby Town, and it's the Saddlers who hold an overall head-to-head lead having won thirty-four occasions, with the Mariners securing the win twenty-four times.
There have been thirteen draws over the history of the fixture. A history which began at the Chuckery on Saturday, 22nd October 1892 as Walsall Town Swifts and Grimsby Town met in a League Division Two clash, the home side winning 3-1.
THE LAST TIME WE MET
The most recent meeting took place at Blundell Park on Saturday, 19th October 2024 and saw the Saddlers ease to victory by four-goals-to-one.
With the Saddlers looking to secure their first win in three league games, they had to be patient as the first goal of the game didn't arrive until the second-half when Jamille Matt grabbed his fourth goal of the campaign to put his side ahead.
Walsall's second goal of the game came via the foot of Jamie Jellis as the former Tamworth midfielder slammed the ball into the top corner from some distance, bagging his third goal of the campaign.
Stoke City loanee Nathan Lowe was the third Saddler to get on the scoresheet as he bagged his seventh goal of an already fruitful campaign as the Grimsby defence continued to fall apart.
The home side grabbed a goal back with around three minutes of normal time remaining, as substitute Donovan Wilson took advantage of some sloppy play to dirty Tommy Simkin's sheet.
Walsall reestablished their three-goal cushion in second-half injury time as Danny Johnson came off the bench before slotting the ball into the back of the net.
MATCH OFFICIALS
The EFL has confirmed that Scott Jackson who is based on Merseyside will take charge of the match with Jacob Graham and Joseph Pettitt being named as assistant referees, whilst Adewunmi Soneye has been selected as Fourth Official.
