PRE-MATCH NEWS& VIEWS

Going five games without a win, the Saddlers will reach this weekend's match on the back of a midweek draw with Bromley and in search of three much-needed points.

Twice bouncing back from going a goal down to secure a draw, Mat Sadler's men have been struggling to stamp their authority on matches over recent weeks, with their mid-season slump stretching to the final few weeks of the campaign.

With several members of the squad unavailable for selection, the Head Coach will be fielding a changed line-up against the Gills, with some of the fringe players being given a welcome opportunity to force their way into more permanent contention.

WALSALL TEAM NEWS

Walsall will be without a hatful of players for this weekend's trip to the Priestfield Stadium as, along with the usual injuries, there are several players away on international duty.

There is some goon news, however, as captain Donervon Daniels (calf) — who has been out since January — will be available for selection after recovering from injury.

Sadly, Ellis Harrison (hamstring) has joined the ranks of the walking wounded after suffering an injury during the recent draw with Bromley.

Priestley Farquharson (thigh), George Hall (hamstring), Jack Earing (ankle), and Josh Gordon (hamstring) are also in varying stages of fitness as the club's medical team continue to more than earn their wages.

Elsewhere, wing-back Connor Barrett will be suspended, whilst Tommy Simkin, David Okagbue, Darius Lipsiuc, Liam Gordon, Ethan Wheatley are all away on international duty.

OPPOSITION NEWS

Opponents Gillingham have won just two of their last seventeen league games and, unsurprisingly, are among League Two's struggling sides.

Despite their long-term woes, the Gills have avoided defeat in their last two with their most recent result seeing them hold Accrington Stanley to a 1-1 draw as Max Clark struck in second-half stoppage time to earn a point for his side.

On the injury front, Marcus Wyllie, Josh Andrews and Ethan Coleman are all out through injury.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The Saddlers and Gills have met on 121 previous occasions, and it's all-square between the two, with forty-seven wins apiece. (27 draws)

Their first meeting took place on Saturday, 24th September 1927 as they met in a Division Three (South) match which was played in front of some 6,923 Fellows Park fans, and ended in a 7-4 win for the Saddlers.

THE LAST TIME WE MET

The most recent meeting between the Saddlers and Gills took place at the Poundland Bescot Stadium on Tuesday, 11th February 2025, and saw the spoils shared with a one-all draw.

Following a turgid first-half, the Saddlers took the lead early in the second as a Connor Barrett effort deflected off Jamille Matt and into the back of the net.

The visitors levelled the scores via Robbie McKenzie's superb effort from outside the area, with on-loan Stoke City stopper Tommy Simkin undoubtedly disappointed to concede following a strong showing between the sticks.

MATCH OFFICIALS

The EFL has confirmed that Andrew Humphries who is based in Northamptonshire will take charge of the match with Conall Bartlett and Michael Webb being named as assistant referees, whilst Ryan Whitaker has been selected as Fourth Official.
