PRE-MATCH VIEWS

Walsall continue to live something of a charmed life at the top of the Sky Bet League Two table.

Winless in their last seven games, they still maintain a one point lead over second placed Bradford City, as the Bantams have simply been unable to take advantage of various Saddlers slip ups.

Going into Tuesday evening's match on the back of a one-all draw with AFC Wimbledon, it's unlikely the Saddlers will continue to enjoy such luck over the remaining few weeks of the campaign, so simply have to find a way to win.

Head Coach Mat Sadler has sought to shake things up over recent weeks, with some of the fringe players making appearances at various stages of games, this, however, hasn't resulted in a change of fortunes as goals continue to be difficult to come by.

Be it an own goal, or an effort deflected off someone's backside, the Saddlers have got to begin to take better advantage of their time on top of games as they often descend into midfield battles, with far too many matches ending in a draw.

Whether the gaffer believes a point earned is better than two points dropped, there aren't enough games remaining for the team to simply rely on an accumulation of draws to get them over the line.

The time has come for the players to stand up and be counted, this is the best opportunity the team has had to make it ack to the third tier, and they simply must make the most of it.

WALSALL TEAM NEWS

Priestley Farquharson (thigh), Josh Gordon (hamstring), and Jack Earing (ankle) remain on the sidelines. Connor Barrett returns from suspension.

OPPOSITION NEWS

Opponents Doncaster Rivers sit fourth in the table ahead of kick-off, and will reach Tuesday evening's game on the back of a three-nil win over relegation favourites, Carlisle United.

Their first win in four league games, goals from Owen Bailey, Jordan Gibson and Harry Clifton, kept Donny in the race for the title, piling more pressure on the Saddlers ahead of kick-off.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Walsall and Doncaster Rovers have met on seventy previous occasions, and it's the Saddlers who enjoy a comfortable Head-to-Head lead, having won on thirty-six occasions compared to Rovers' twenty-five.

There have also been nine draws over the history of the fixture, a history which began at Doncaster's Belle Vue ground on Saturday, 19th January 1924, and saw the teams meet in a Division Three (North) clash which Rovers won by three goals to nil.

THE LAST TIME WE MET

The most recent meeting took place on Boxing Day, 26th December 2024, and saw the Saddlers win by two-goals-to-nil.

The first goal of the game didn't arrive until the early stages of the second-half, as on-loan Stoke City striker Nathan Lowe grabbed his eleventh league goal of the campaign.

The Saddlers doubled their lead with just over ten minutes of normal time remaining as Harry Williams headed the ball home from a well-placed Jamie Jellis free-kick.

MATCH OFFICIALS

The EFL has confirmed that James Oldham who is based in Derbyshire will take charge of the match with Wayne Grunnill and Callum Gough being named as assistant referees, whilst Jack Forder-Hay has been selected as Fourth Official.
