PRE-MATCH VIEWS

Walsall's poor spell of form continued at the weekend as they were defeated 3-1 by Grimsby Town in front of over 6,000 fans at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

Taking the lead via Ellis Harrison's third goal of the club, Mat Sadler's men were simply unable to stop the visiting Mariners going on to establish a comfortable lead as a brace from Jayden Luker, either side of a Danny Rose penalty, were enough to confirm the win.

The result sees the Saddlers make it four games without a win and, were it not for other sides failing to take advantage of the opportunity afforded to them, would have lost their place at the top of the table.

After seeing a once-twelve point lead slashed to just two, the team has it all to do if they are to finally make the leap back to the third tier of the English game.

With just ten games remaining, there is very little room for error over the final five-or-so weeks of the season, especially with games against several title rivals still to come.

Whatever happens in front of the Sky Sport cameras on Thursday evening. it's clear the team has lost some of the spark that saw it move into such a strong position ahead of their ongoing slump. Hopefully, the group will be able to find their feet over the next few weeks and at least avoid the potential pitfalls of the Play-Offs.

WALSALL TEAM NEWS

Donervon DanielsPriestley FarquharsonJack EaringGeorge Hall, and Josh Gordon are still missing for the Saddlers, though Daniels and Farquharson are said to be closing in on a return to action.

OPPOSITION NEWS

Opponents Bromley will reach Thursday's match on the back of a narrow 2-1 defeat to Tranmere Rovers as goals from Josh Hawkes and Omari Patrick, who netted his ninth goal of the season, saw Rovers break a twelve game winless run.

The Ravens' goal arrived via the ever-reliable Michael Cheek as he scored for an 18th time in thirty-eight games as he continues to prove his worth in the EFL following an extensive career in non-league.

Bromley have won three of their last four home league games, and will fancy their chances as they welcome Mat Sadler and his stuttering Saddlers to town.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

There has been just one competitive meeting between the Saddlers and Ravens, and it saw neither side gain an advantage as it ended all-square, at two-all.

Taking place in front of 4,424 fans at the Poundland Bescot Stadium on Tuesday, 26th November 2024, the first goal of the game arrived with around five minutes of the first half remaining and went the way of the Saddlers when Liam Gordon showed some neat close control as he ran the length of the Bromley half to slot the ball into the back of the net.

Bromley levelled the scores with an hour on the clock as Michael Cheek, who had been a constant threat throughout the game, capped off an attacking move by putting the ball beyond Tommy Simkin and into the back of the net.

The visitors went into the lead with thirteen minutes of normal time remaining, as on-loan Crystal Palace man Danny Imray opened his account for the campaign with a shot from a very tight angle.

Walsall levelled the scores late in second-half stoppage time as, despite the officials giving the goal to David Okagbue, we think Jamie Jellis got the last touch at the end of a goal-mouth scramble to see the ball go over the line.

MATCH OFFICIALS

The EFL has confirmed that Ruebyn Ricardo who is based in Leicestershire will take charge of the match with Jonathon Block and Damith Bandara being named as assistant referees, whilst Charles Breakspear has been selected as Fourth Official.
