International Round-Up: Monday, 24th March 2025

Here's our latest look at how the Saddlers' international stars got on.
There were several Saddlers in action on Monday evening as they continued their spells of international football.

Hungary U21s 1-3 Ireland U21s • Friendly • Pinatar Arena, San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia

David Okagbue, Darius Lipsiuc, and Ronan Maher all started as Ireland overcame Hungary on a sticky evening in Murcia.

The match began in record-breaking fashion as St. Patrick's Athletic forward Mason Melia became Ireland 21s youngest ever goalscorer when he opened his account with sixteen minutes on the clock.

Diósgyőri forward Gábor Jurek levelled the scores seventeen minutes later, but East Fife striker Conor McManus scored twice in the second half to secure the win.

England U21s 4-2 Portugal U21s • Friendly • The Hawthorns, West Bromwich

Tommy Simkin was an unused substitute as England defeated Portugal at the Hawthorns on Monday evening.

Hayden Hackney and debutant Ethan Nwaneri gave the young Lions a two-goal lead before Fabio Silva halved the deficit midway through the first-half.

Omari Hutchinson restored England's two-goal advantage twelve minutes before time, only for Carlos Forbs to give the visitors some hope late in the game.

The win was sealed in second-half stoppage time, however, when substitute Jaden Philogene-Bidace put the ball into the back of the net.
