Mat Sadler Pleased as Walsall Enter 'Professional Performance' Against Morecambe

Here's how the gaffer saw Walsall's League Two meeting with Morecambe.
Walsall boss Mat Sadler has praised his side for their 'professional' performance as they made it two wins in as many games with a two-nil televised triumph over Morecambe on Saturday afternoon.

Going into the contest on the back of last weekend's win over Chesterfield, the Saddlers were looking to edge closer to promotion, though were faced with something of a mud bath at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.

After playing out a goalless first half, the game turned on the red card of Shrimps defender Rhys Williams as the Saddlers made the most of their opportunity when Taylor Allen scored via a superb free-kick.

Walsall doubled their lead later in the half when Jamie Jellis was rewarded for a hard-working display as he grabbed his seventh goal of the season, sealing the points for his side.

Speaking to Express & Star reporter George Bennett, Sadler said: "It was a professional performance.

"I thought from start to finish it was, barring maybe a five-minute spell towards the end of the first half, we completely controlled the game.

"It's a terrible pitch. I don't know why the lawnmower is on the pitch now because there's no grass on there.

"Both teams, of course, but it was really difficult to get any real football into the game.

"We handled that really well. It was pivotal after the sending off, we scored straightaway.

"Talk about that double jeopardy, it made it that for them, and that was important for us because on the pitch it's really difficult to build anything.

"Very pleased with that, and it was a fantastic finish from Taylor. The determination and desire to throw bodies on the line and give everything for the cause was evident for everyone to see.

"I'm particularly pleased with the clean sheet because that lads had to really dig in there for that."
