Mat Sadler Pleased as 'Unbelievable' Saddlers Win on the Road

Here is how Mat Sadler saw the Saddlers' League Two meeting with Notts County.
Walsall boss Mat Sadler has praised his team for their patient display as they made it seven wins in as many games with a bounce-back win over Notts County on New Year's Day.

Going behind to Alassana Jatta's latest goal of the season in the first-half, the Saddlers mounted a second-half fightback to extend their unbeaten run and continue their dominance at the top of the table.

After defender Evan Weir, who replaced Taylor Allen in the starting eleven, pulled off a remarkable goal-line clearance to deny County a second goal, Walsall went on to score via half-time substitute Jamille Matt and on-loan Stoke City man Nathan Lowe, taking them thirteen points clear.

Speaking to George Bennett of the Express & Star, Mat said: "The first half, plan A didn't work and we have to thank Evan for keeping that score down because I haven't seen a better goal line clearance than that before.

"We had to really be resilient in that first half because you go one-nil down, I can make the changes and do what I needed to do. If it goes two-nil, then it's a different game.

"Credit to everybody to dig in when it wasn't quite working, but obviously we shuffled the pack and turned things around in the second half. I just thought the energy in the second half from the group was unbelievable.

"We looked like a team possessed. The energy from Oisin and Jamille was a game changer for us. I'm going to have to find all different ways to win games this year.

"Today, the plan wasn't quite working, and we had to slightly adjust. Credit to the lads, they were unbelievable in that second half."
