Walsall made their way to Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday afternoon as they took on table-toppers Port Vale as they looked to knock the Valiants off the top and edge closer to a potential return to League One.
After playing out a goalless first-half, the first and only goal of the game arrived six minutes into the second forty-five as Jamille Matt bagged his sixth goal of the season after he got on the end of a Taylor Allen corner, his shot stinging the hands of the Vale 'keeper before looping over the line.
The result sees the Saddlers move above their hosts and to the top of the table ahead of another busy run of games.
