International Round-Up: Friday, 15th November 2024

Here is how some of the Saddlers' international players got on in their recent outings.
Walsall defender Liam Gordon and on-loan Stoke City goalkeeper Tommy SImkin were among the Saddlers selected for international duty earlier this week. Here's how they got as their teams took to the field.

Liam Gordon was named in the starting XI as Guyana took on Barbados at the Sir Garfield Sobers Complex in Wildey, Barbados on Friday evening.

Barbados, who were promoted from League C, took on the Golden Jaguars, who had been relegated from League A. As they looked to advance their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The home side opened the scoring as UWI Blackbirds midfielder Niall Reid-Stephen capped off a swift counter-attack to slot the ball into the back of the Guyana net from just outside the area.

Guyana went on to level the scores later in the half when Omari Glasgow ended a well-worked passing move by side-footing the ball beyond Barbados 'keeper Corey Bridgeman from around the twelve-year mark.

Omari Glasgow grabbed his and Huyana's second goal just ahead of the sixty-minute mark as his teammates passed their way through the opposition once again.

Osaze De Rosario, who had assisted Glasgow's first, netted a goal of his own two minutes later as Barbados tried to slow the play down at the back with an under-weighted pass leaving the goalkeeper stranded as the ball was chipped over him and into the back of the net.

Second-half substitute Enoch George added to Guyana's lead in the opening stages of second-half stoppage time as another counterattack again paid dividends. A comfortable win for Liam Gordon and his teammates.

Tommy Simkin was named in the England Elite League starting XI as they took on Germany Under-20s at the SMH Group Stadium in Chesterfield.

It was another successful evening for the on-loan Stoke City stopper as he was able to thwart all of the German's advances and retain his clean sheet.

It was also a success at the other end of the pitch as goals from Romain Esse, Max Dean, Sydie Peck, and Will Lankshear saw the Young Lions secure a comfortable 4-0 win.
