Darren Byfield Offers Praise for 'Strong' Saddlers Squad

Here is how the Darren Byfield saw Walsall's EFL Trophy meeting with Shrewsury Town.
Walsall first-team coach Darren Byfield has praised the squad for their strong showing as they defeated Shrewsbury Town 3-0 in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday evening.

Head Coach Mat Sadler made ten changes to his starting eleven, and several players were given a welcome rest, along with an international quartet who departed for games overseas.

Despite the raft of changes, goals from loanees Reyes Cleary, George Hall and Nathan Lowe saw the Saddlers move above Birmingham City to the top of Southern Group E.

Speaking to Express & Star reporter George Bennett, Darren said: "It shows how strong the squad is.

"Testament to the boys that came in, no excuses from them regarding match sharpness and things like that. They've come in and I thought they were all superb to be honest.

"It's a tough game against League One opposition and they've acquitted themselves really well.

"We want to keep winning. We know we're not going to win every game but with this group that we have, that togetherness has come from the gaffer which has been instilled.

"We're in it together, we stick together, we encourage and we demand from each other. That runs through the whole of the club."
