PRE-MATCH NEWS & VIEWS
Walsall's superb start to the season continued on Saturday afternoon as they made their way to the Peninsula Stadium and defeated Salford City in front of over 750 travelling fans.
Goals from Nathan Lowe and Charlie Lakin saw the Reds make it three wins in as many games, adding to their recent league win over Bradford City and midweek EFL Trophy triumph over Fulham Under-21s.
Whilst Tuesday evening's meeting with former Premier League champions Leicester City represents something of a tougher challenge. The Saddlers are in a good place at the moment, having won five of their seven league outings, along with a trio of wins and a bonus point triumph on their various cup outings so far this campaign.
Having already knocked out higher tanking opposition in the shape of Exeter City and Huddersfield Town to reach Round Three, the Saddlers have plenty of positives to build upon. With the current crop more than capable of causing an upset in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
WALSALL TEAM NEWS
Walsall will be without the likes of Priestley Farquharson, Donervon Daniels, Brandon Comley, Oisin McEntee and Josh Gordon as they continue their respective bids to return to fitness following various injury issues.
OPPOSITION NEWS
Outside of the Carabao Cup, opponents Leicester City are yet to get going so far this season with Steve Cooper's side drawing three and losing the other two of their five Premier League games.
Their only real bright spot came in the Second Round of the EFL Cup when they easily defeated Tranmere Rovers at the King Power Stadium. With goals from Jordan Ayew, Stephy Mavididi, Wilfred Ndidi and Harry Winks securing their place alongside the Saddlers.
Whilst Cooper is expected to make several changes to the side that held Everton to a 1-1 draw at the weekend, he's still likely to field a competitive squad as he seeks to edge closer to a possible piece of silverware.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
There have been just twenty competitive meetings between Walsall and Leicester City, and, along with four draws, it's the Foxes who hold an overall lead, having won on thirteen occasions compared to the Saddlers' three.
Their first meeting took place at Walsall's short-term home of West Bromwich Road on Saturday, 8th December 1894, and saw Leicester Fosse emerge victorious over Walsall Town Swifts by three-goals-to-two.
THE LAST TIME WE MET
The most recent meeting was also a cup clash as the Saddlers and Foxes faced off in an Emirates FA Cup - Fourth Round clash at the Poundland Bescot Stadium on Saturday, 28th January 2023.
The match was a close-run affair, with both sides creating chances, however, the first and only goal of the game went the way of the visitors as Kelechi Iheanacho saw an effort deflect off the thigh of Brandon Comley and over Owen Evans' head to secure a place in the next round.
MATCH OFFICIALS
The EFL has confirmed that Tom Nield who is based in West Yorkshire will take charge of the match with Richard Wild and Jonathan Hunt being named as assistant referees, whilst Darren Drysdale has been selected as Fourth Official.
