PRE-MATCH VIEWS

Walsall's superb start to the season continued on Saturday afternoon as they thrashed Colchester United 4-0 in a televised clash at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

Goals from Jamie Jellis, Albert Adomah, and Jack Earing - who bagged a brace - saw the Saddlers extend their unbeaten home league run to four games, putting them among the form sides in the entire football pyramid.

Sitting second in the table ahead of kick-off, Mat Sadler's men have really hit the ground running and, despite an extensive list of injury issues, have played well both as individuals and as a unit.

Often playing with less of the ball, the team has shown great patience and composure over the opening two months of the season. Conceding just four goals across their eight league games, the defence is performing well above expectations, especially when you consider the number of injuries suffered in or around the backline.

With that being said, praise also has to go to the attacking line as they've also demonstrated the welcome ability to take chances in front of goal. Scoring at 1.8 goals a game, the attackers have given the faithful plenty to get behind, something that will hopefully continue in midweek.

WALSALL TEAM NEWS

Donervon Daniels and Brandon Comley are back in the fold but the Saddlers remain without the services of Priestley Farquharson, Oisin McEntee and Josh Gordon with only Oisin who can see a light at the end of his injury tunnel.

OPPOSITION NEWS

Opponents Fleetwood Town will also arrive at Tuesday's match on the back of a win as two Matty Virtue-Thick goals saw them ease past Cheltenham Town on Saturday afternoon.

Sitting 10th in the table ahead of kick-off, a win could see the Fishermen jump into the Play-Off places, if other results go their way.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

There have been thirteen competitive meetings between the two sides, and it's Walsall that hold an overall head-to-head advantage as they've won eight times compared to Fleetwood's three.

The first meeting was an FA Cup - First Round clash that took place at the Highbury Stadium on Saturday, 6th November 2010. The teams went to a replay as Matt Richards' 4th-minute opener was cancelled out by Jamie Mullan in the second half.

Walsall went on to win the replay, played at the Banks's Stadium ten days later, as Reuben Reid bagged an unanswered brace to book his team's place in the Second Round.

THE LAST TIME WE MET

The most recent meeting was a League One clash that took place at the Banks's Stadium on Saturday, 9th March 2019 and saw the Saddlers take three crucial points as goals from Morgan Ferrier and Dan Scarr were enough to take the win.
