Walsall boss Mat Sadler has spoken of his satisfaction as the Saddlers opened their 2024/25 League Two campaign with a win over Morecambe.
Playing in front of the Sky Sports cameras, Walsall scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half as Taylor Allen opened his account for the season.
Though the performance is unlikely to feature on any end-of-season highlight packages, Sadler was pleased to see his team dominate large swathes of the contest and take three deserved points.
Speaking to the assembled media, including the Express & Star, Sadler said: "I felt it was as dominant a one-nil win as you can really have. I don't think they had a shot on target so I was really pleased with the performance.
"The heat sapped everything out of the lads at some point because we've got some who've not been well as well.
"We've had a bit of an illness in the camp this week which has taken the legs out of us a little bit but you wouldn't have known it for large parts.
"I thought we were really dominant for a large portion of the first half and going into the second half, you want to get that second goal, but if it doesn't come then be resilient and hard to beat, and we were."
