Walsall were back in cup action on Tuesday evening when they welcomed Exeter City to the Poundland Bescot Stadium for their Carabao Cup - Southern Round One clash.
With both teams going into the game on the back of 1-0 opening-day victories, there was little to separate them as the first cup competition of the season got underway.
The first goal of the game went the way of the visitors as Millenic Alli poked the ball home from a Caleb Watts pass with around five minutes of the first-half still to play.
Walsall - who saw a Josh Gordon penalty saved with nine minutes of the game remaining - had to keep their cool as they were only able to level the scores in the third minute of time added on as Jamie Jellis struck home.
The match then went to a penalty shoot-out that saw Walsall take their place in the Second Round stage.
