Walsall will be back in action on Tuesday evening as attention turns to their Carabao Cup - Round Two meeting with Sky Bet League One side, Huddersfield Town.
PRE-MATCH NEWS & VIEWS
Walsall suffered their first defeat of the season at the weekend as Omari Patrick's goal proved to be enough to see Tranmere Rovers secure all three points, and, as a result, pick up their first win of the league campaign.
Though the result was far from a thrashing, the Saddlers really only had themselves to blame as they let a hateful of goal-scoring opportunities fall by the wayside, chief amongst them being Jamille Matt's saved spot-kick.
Whilst there was plenty to be happy about, these sort of performances can't be allowed to become commonplace if the team is to finally get itself out of the fourth tier and begin to climb up the EFL pyramid.
With attention turning to a cup clash, we'd welcome a slight switch in personnel as we're keen to see what some of the fringe players have to offer, especially with the squad looking far healthier following the new striking signings.
Opponents Huddersfield Town will reach Tuesday's clash on the back of a narrow victory over Shrewsbury Town as Callum Marshall's 20th-minute goal was enough to extend their unbeaten start to the league season.
The Terriers booked their place alongside Walsall with a comfortable 3-0 win over Morecambe, as West Ham loanee Marshall was joined on the scoresheet by Jaheim Headley and Danny Ward.
WALSALL TEAM NEWS
Walsall remain without the services of captain Donervon Daniels, midfielder Brandon Comley and striker Danny Johnson as they work their way back to fitness following a range of injury issues.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
There have been thirty-six competitive meetings between the Saddlers and Terriers, with Huddersfield enjoying a comfortable head-to-head advantage, having won seventeen times compared to Walsall's seven.
There have been twelve draws over the history of this fixture, a history that began in front of over 33,000 fans at Huddersfield's Leeds Road ground on Saturday, 11th February 1939 as the two sides met in an FA Cup - Fifth Round clash.
The match was a comfortable one for the home side as they eased into the next round by three-goals-to-nil.
THE LAST TIME WE MET
The most recent meeting, a League One match, took place at the Bescot Stadium on Saturday, 28th April 2012. The spoils were shared as Lee Novak's early opener was cancelled out by Florent Cuvelier in the second half.
The Walsall side saw the likes of Cuvelier, Jimmy Walker, Emmanuel Ledesma, and current Head Coach Mat Sadler take to the field.
MATCH OFFICIALS
The EFL has confirmed that Ed Duckworth will be the man in the middle, whilst Danny Guest and Kenwyn Hughes have been named assistant referees. Scott Simpson will act as Fourth Official.
