Liam Gordon Starts as Guyana Lose to Panama

The left-back was back in action in the early hours of Friday morning.
Walsall defender Liam Gordon was named in the starting XI as Guyana took on Panama in their opening group game in the Second Round of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers.

Taking place at the Estadio Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez in Panama City, Panama, the two sides were looking to take gain an early advantage in their bid to secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

GUYANA TEAM
Roberts, Gordon, Vancooten, Jones, Kellman, Lovell, Moriah-Welsh, Duke-McKenna, Bonds, Ferguson, Glasgow
Substitutes: Adams, Nelson, Hackett, Niles, Benjamin, Moore, Clarke, Wilson, De Rosario, Daniel, Scarlett, McKenzie-Lyle

Gordon, who made forty-nine first-team appearances for the Saddlers last season, continues to feature regularly for the Golden Jaguars, who compete in various competitions, including the CONCACAF Nations League.

The match got underway at 1.30am BST, and was a tight affair with both sides guilty of wasting promising chances, with the first goal not arriving until shortly after the hour mark.

The goal went the way of Panama as Al-Jandal midfielder Cristian Martinez was afforded far too much space and time in the Guyana box as he was able to receive the ball,  before turning and slamming an effort high into the back of the net.

Panama went on to grab their second goal of the game just a couple of minutes after their first as they were once again gifted too much space as Famalicão striker José Luis Rodríguez was only too happy to smash the ball home.

Liam played for the full ninety minutes but was unable to help Guyana game the win, with their next game coming in just a few days' time.
