Liam Gordon Scores as Guyana Ease Past Belize

The Saddlers left-back was back in action on Tuesday evening.
Walsall defender Liam Gordon retained his place in the Guyana starting XI as they took on Belize in their second group game in the Second Round of the CONCACAF 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Taking place at the Wildey Turf in Bridgetown, Barbados, Guyana were looking to rebound from their recent defeat to Panama and get some points on the board as they bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

GUYANA TEAM
Quillan Roberts; Leo Lovell, Jalen Jones, Terence Vancooten, Liam Gordon, Omari Glasgow, Elliot Bonds, Daniel Wilson, Stephen Duke-McKenna, Nathan Moriah-Welsh, Deon Moore
Substitutes: Akel Clarke; Kai McKenzie-Lyle, Quincy Adams, Colin Nelson, Darron Niles, Nathan Ferguson, Ryan Hackett, Curtez Kellman, Kadell Daniel, Osaze De Rosario, Kelsey Benjamin

After playing out a goalless first forty-five, Guyana thought they had taken the lead six minutes into the second half as Omari Glasgow prodded the ball home following a neat ball across the box after Belize 'keeper Woodrow West failed to gather the ball, however the flag was eventually raised for offside.

Guyana didn't allow their missed opportunity to get them down and went on to take the lead for real later in the half as Deon Moore finished off a quick attacking move by tapping the ball over the line as the Belize defence struggled to get back following a broken-down attack of their own.

Just moments after the first, the second goal of the game also went the way of Guyana as Walsall's Liam Gordon controlled the ball on the edge of the area before breaking into the box and slamming the ball home - a superb move from the Golden Jaguars.

Guyana continued their pursuit of goals and soon added to their leaf as Moore got his second and his team's third as the Belize backline once again struggled to contain the Guyana attack during what was becoming an increasingly difficult second-half.

It wasn't all doom and gloom for Belize as they were able to dirty the Guyana sheet late in the game with Platense striker Carlos Bernárdez capping off an attacking play with a deflected effort.

Liam played for eighty-five minutes before being replaced by Nathan Ferguson as he continues to do well on the international stage. Well done, Liam!
