Walsall Under-18s returned to action on Saturday morning as they welcomed Stockport County to Ray Hall Lane for their latest EFL Youth Alliance - North West outing of the season.
Playing in their first Youth Alliance fixture since early November, the young Saddlers were hoping to open the New Year with a positive performance and, hopefully, three points.
WALSALL TEAM
Kilroy; Bennett, Robbette, Mee, Webb, Pawlowski, Footes, Thomas, Wragg, Preece, Leydon
Substitutes: Barber; Etheridge, Davies, Roberts
The game's opening goal went the way of the young Saddlers as Charlie Wragg, who had seen a tame effort saved earlier in the half, capped off a fine attacking move that saw Dylan Thomas and Charlie Footes combine before Wragg applied the finish.
The second half was disrupted by substitutions and stoppages but, sadly for the Saddlers, their lead didn't last as the visitors got themselves back on level terms with around eleven minutes of the game remaining as goalkeeper Jenson Kilroy saw his clean sheet disappear.
The late heartache didn't stop there, either as County went on to grab a winner in second-half stoppage time as Josh Fowles put the ball beyond substitute goalkeeper Harrison Barber, who had replaced Kilroy late in the game, to give his side all three points.
