Speaking after his side ended their Bristol Street Motors Trophy campaign with a narrow 3-2 defeat, Saddlers boss Mat Sadler admitted his team needs to work harder and stop conceding unnecessary goals.
In a performance similar to the one against Sheppey United in the FA Cup, Walsall created some twenty-five shots and managed to score via Danny Johnson, who earned a rare starting place, and Isaac Hutchinson.
However, goals from Daniel Udoh, former Saddlers Mal Benning, and Ryan Bowman saw the home side take all three points, though they also exited the competition after failing to win either of their two previous games.
Talking to representatives of the local media, including the Express & Star, Mat said; "Because there was nothing riding on the game, you get that little bit of gung-ho attitude to it potentially.
"But I wanted to win the game and I was disappointed with the goals that we conceded. We always look a threat, and it's another twenty-five shots.
"Plenty to like about it, but frustrated that we need to get back to keeping zeros and ones. That needs to be our real focus and then those small bits will start to add up to bigger things.
"We are a good team, and we are close to being a very good team. Clearly, we need to get some of those bodies back."
