We now know which team will play host to Mat Sadler's Walsall in the First Round (proper) of the 2023/24 Emirates FA Cup in early November.On Sunday the Saddlers were handed two potential opponents as Billericay Town and Sheppey United, who had played out a one-all draw on Saturday afternoon, were drawn out of the hat live on ITV1.
However, with little time for recovery, the two teams faced off in a replay on Tuesday evening, and Sheppey United thought they'd booked their place in the First Round (proper) as Daniel Bradshaw netted within the opening twenty-minutes, but there was late drama as Bradley Stevenson levelled the scores with five-minutes remaining.
The drama didn't end there, as, following thirty-minutes of extra time - that saw Ben Wells sent off for Billericay - the match went to penalties with Sheppey emerging victorious by five goals to four.
The First Round proper will be held between Friday, 3rd, and Monday, 6th November 2023, with winning clubs at this stage picking up £40,000 from the competition's prize fund.
