The Saddlers made their way to Rodney Parade on Friday evening as they were due to take on Newport County as League Two reached gameday 14.
The first goal of the game arrived within four minutes of kick-off as former Walsall loanee Bryn Morris put the ball into the back of the net. Not the ideal start for the Saddlers.
Our hosts' lead didn't hold firm for long as on-loan Lincoln City man Freddie Draper grabbed his sixth goal in a Walsall shirt to put the game back on level terms.
The home side retook the lead four minutes into first-half stoppage time as Will Evans took advantage of a sloppy Walsall backline to put the Exiles ahead.
Walsall weren't about to be beaten without a battle as, with eight minutes of the second half played, Freddie Draper went on to grab his second of the game to put the Saddlers back on level terms once again.
Newport retook the lead some sixty-seven minutes into the contest as Bryn Morris bagged his second goal of the game as he got on the end of a dangerous cross to guide the ball over the line.
Walsall once again got themselves back on level terms as Freddie Draper completed his hat-trick deep into second-half stoppage time.
