Walsall Head Coach Mat Sadler has spoken of his pleasure after seeing his Saddlers side start the pre-season campaign with a welcome win over Leamington.
"Credit to them in how they applied themselves, credit to them in the way they took on the stuff we had asked them to take on. It was a worthwhile run out, everyone is okay and that is the main thing for me, everyone has come through it okay and in good shape so I am pleased."
Goals from Danny Johnson, who netted within the first minute of the game, Douglas James-Taylor, who grabbed a brace, and Isaac Hutchinson saw the Reds register a comprehensive at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.
Sadler, who is beginning his first season in the top job, also sought to focus on what the game brings to the team in terms of focus and fitness, rather than concentrating on the result itself.
Speaking via the club's official website, Mat said; "I said it before the game, it’s that first taste of playing under the lights as it was tonight.
"The lads have done a lot of work building up to the first game, the first friendly, and I think that you could see that there was a real enjoyment from them being part of a real competitive game.
