The Club has confirmed Walsall FC Women will fully integrate into the Club and begin a new chapter for Walsall Football Club.
Thanks to a combined approach between the Club, Trivela Foundation, and Walsall FC Foundation, there are exciting plans to grow the women’s and girls’ game.
Whilst the Women’s section will build on last season, a new Women & Girls Football Development Officer (WGFD) role has been created and this role will manage and lead the programme within the Club.
The new WGFD Officer will be in post at Walsall FC Foundation and is funded by the Trivela Foundation. The new role will have a key position on the Women’s and Girls’ football board and will help shape the future of the game within the club.
Over the coming seasons, the WGFD Officer will oversee the grassroots football sessions for girls, look to develop a U18 squad and support the women’s first team. It is an exciting chapter for the Club and the community.
Head of Sport for the Foundation, Marc Wilkes, is excited by the new plans: “The growth of the Women’s and Girls’ game is an important aspect for the sporting department at Walsall FC Foundation.
"The Club will benefit from increased activities for Girls and bringing the Women’s team under the control of the Club.
"We have a thriving boys section and a Football Development Officer that oversees the Foundation Youth Development Squads and the EFL Post 16 College & Education teams.
"It makes sense that we replicate this for the female game and we are ambitious with our plans. The hard work starts now and we have filled the role of WGFD Officer and plan to hit the new season running.
"It is going to be an exciting summer and we look forward to introducing the WGFD Officer in the coming weeks."
Wesley Hill from Trivela Foundation added; "We are just grateful to be able to help with this programme.
"This is something that the club and the Foundation have been working on for quite some time and we jumped at the idea to strategically increase participation, accessibility, and professionalism for the Women’s and Girls’ game at our Club.
"The growth of female participation is an extremely important area for Walsall FC."
The role for the Foundation Women & Girls Football Development Officer has been advertised for the last six weeks and the club has made an appointment ready for the summer.
A new dawn for the Walsall Women is on the horizon and everyone involved is excited to see what the new season brings.
