Following two years of planning, funding and development the brand new 3G pitch at the newly christened Chris Nicholl Soccer Centre is set to open on Monday, 5th June.
Located on Wednesbury Road, the LMRCA Railway Club recently announced plans to pay tribute to Saddlers legend Nicholl as they prepare for a grand opening next week.
Chris, who played for Aston Villa and Northern Ireland during a distinguished playing career, brought success to these parts in 1995 when he led Walsall FC to promotion after five years in the Third Division, heralding the start of a golden era in the club’s history.
He continued to live in the town for more than 25 years, remaining a staunch supporter of the football club and all levels of grassroots football in the region.
A much-loved figure, Chris has always been a keen supporter of ISSA (The Independent Saddlers Supporters Association) and a regular fixture at the Railway Club until his battle with dementia saw him relocate to the south coast in 2020 to be nearer his family.
We are delighted to name the ‘Chris Nicholl Soccer Centre’ in his honour, a lasting gesture of gratitude for contribution to football in the borough.
