Interim Walsall Head Coach Mat Sadler sought to praise his team as they rounded off their 2022/23 League Two campaign with a win over Doncaster Rovers.
Goals from Conor Wilkinson and Isaac Hutchinson saw the Saddlers take all three points from their clash with the visiting Donny, this despite Bobby Faulkner's consolation strike.
Walsall went into the match with just one win in twenty-two league games and in need of not only a win but an improved performance, following a string of poor performances.
However, after dominating large swathes of the match, the Saddlers finally produced a winning performance, giving Sadler plenty of reasons to be cheerful heading into an uncertain summer in WS1.
Speaking to the media shortly after full-time, Sadler said; "The start of the first half and the start of the second was pleasing because we looked strong from the first whistle and the second which is what we spoke about before the game and at half time.
"When you do that but the goals don't come you can allow yourself to be frustrated but we didn't. We were patient and kept on pushing until the goals came and it was only the final few minutes when they scored that we could have been worried but we saw it out well.
"It is satisfying for me as a coach to get my first win but the players have been outstanding for me in their effort and commitment since I took over for the three games and I want to thank them for that."
