Walsall's hopes of securing just a second win in fifteen league games were dashed on Tuesday evening as goals from Will Nightingale and Ali Al-Hamadi saw hosts AFC Wimbledon build a welcome gap over the League Two relegation zone.
Going into the game on the back of their tenth draw in fourteen league outings, hopes weren't exactly high as Michael Flynn's men have taken being goal-shy to a whole new level over the course of the 2022/23 campaign.
Speaking to the assembled media at a then-empty Cherry Red Records Stadium, Flynn, who had made no secret of his desire for his team to be more ruthless in front of goal, admitted the vast majority of the team simply didn't turn up.
Michael said; "We were beaten by two set plays and that shouldn't happen but there were too many players, I would say around ten, who just didn't put enough in.
"I don't know why that is, I think they think they are done for this season but if they do they will have a rude awakening.
"I have said it before, a lot of them are playing for their futures - I am having good conversations with the owners every day and looking towards what we are going to do next season.
"But this one isn't over yet and there is a lot of football to be played, I will be expecting a big response from them because as much as I made five subs tonight I could have made another five if I was able to."

Taking on a team that had failed to win its last eleven games, the gaffer's frustrations were easy to understand, though he has to do more than just moan to the media after the game and begin to drop players who aren't performing.
