Walsall have confirmed the signing of Newport County midfielder Robbie Willmott, who joins the club on a loan for the remainder of the season. and becomes their second signing of the month.
"Predominantly, I’ll be looking for him to play on the right but he’s got to earn his spot in the team and hopefully, the fans get to see the best of Robbie."
32-year-old Willmott, who can also play as a winger, wing-back and centrally as an attacking midfielder played 292 matches for Newport over two spells and worked closely with Head Coach Michael Flynn and Assistant Head Coach Wayne Hatswell.
During his first spell at Rodney Parade between 2013 and 2015, he played alongside Flynn and helped the Exiles reach the EFL.
After spells at Ebbsfleet United, Eastleigh, Bishop’s Stortford, Chelmsford City, he returned to South Wales in 2017 and played a key role for the Exiles as they reached the Sky Bet League Two play-off final in 2019 and 2021.
He enjoyed a loan spell at Exeter City in the second half of the 2020-21 season but is now looking forward to his new challenge at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.
Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn spoke to club journalists and welcomed Robbie to his squad, speaking via the club's official website, Michael said; "I’m delighted to have Robbie in the building.
"He’s arguably one of the best crossers in the league with either foot and he can play in numerous positions.
"I’ve known him a long time, I’ve played with him, managed him, he’s a good character and he’ll fit in with the group.
"He’s very fit, looks after himself and he will provide us with some good ammunition down the right-hand side.
"Predominantly, I’ll be looking for him to play on the right but he’s got to earn his spot in the team and hopefully, the fans get to see the best of Robbie."
