Former Walsall midfielder Alfie Bates has returned to the UK and signed for Vanarama National League North side Brackley Town on a deal until the end of the season.
Bates, who came through the ranks at Poundland Bescot Stadium after being released by Birmingham City as an apprentice, spent the 2022/23 campaign in Finland with Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho, otherwise known as SJK.
21-year-old Bates moved to Seinäjoki last winter and went on to make thirteen Veikkausliiga appearances, as well as two UEFA Europa Conference League matches.
Alfie, who also featured for SJK Academy as they took part in the League Cup, recently sought to thank SKJ's players, fans, and staff for their support during his time with the club.
Speaking via their official website, Alfie said; "I would like to thank everyone at SJK for giving me the opportunity to play for such a fantastic football club.
"This was a great time together, and I met many great people who I can now call my friends. I also enjoy traveling around Seinäjoki and Finland, exploring the places.
"Thank you also to all the supporters who supported me and the team during the season. It's great that we were able to give them something back, especially in July, when we made club history in the Euro games.
"Special thanks again to Richard Dorman and Joaquín Gómez, and to the great staff of the club, who helped me with everything and helped me adapt to the new environment. Thank you Seinäjoki all the best for the future!"
