Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn has spoken to the local media and offered an update on the injury status of summer signing, Joe Riley.
Joe, who joined the Saddlers on a two-year deal after leaving Carlisle United last summer, is yet to play a competitive game for the club after suffering an injury during pre-season.
After many months of confusion, which saw the 25-year-old undergo various scans and examinations, recent tests have revealed that there are two floating bone fragments rubbing against a tendon, causing discomfort.
Flynn, who has been without several first-team players through injury, went on to confirm the midfielder will undergo an exploratory procedure in a bid to decide what happens next.
Speaking to the Express & Star ahead of his side's League Two meeting with Sutton United, Flynn confirmed; "The fragments have been rubbing on the tendon, causing him pain.
"We don’t know the extent of it because of the damage to the tendon and if the fragments aren’t where you can go in and take them out, it is going to be a longer one.
"But we now know what it is and that is positive news because we have all been scratching our heads. Nobody had a clue."
