Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn, who had watched as his side grabbed a late point in their awayday clash with Sutton United, admitted he was frustrated by the performance of referee Paul Howard.
Referee Howard, who had only taken charge of one game before the meeting between the Saddlers and Sutton, saw fit to dismiss Walsall midfielder Brandon Comley after only twenty-six minutes, with the former Bolton man picking up two bookings on the way to an early shower.
As if to further compound the gaffer's view of him, the man in the middle also went on to award the home side a controversial penalty, with the Amber and Chocolates only to happy to put themselves into the lead.
Speaking via the Express & Star, Flynn said; "The referee has spoilt the game from the very start, it was an awful performance.
"They need to look whether he referees next week or not. It's never been a red card, he's looking at the ball, the first one isn't a yellow card either - it makes a mockery of the game.
"He's the one who has given the penalty as the fourth official and assistants were not on that side of the ball - it's absolutely disgusting."
Thankfully, Walsall's woes didn't result in more than a couple of dropped points as second-half substitute Jacob Maddox was able to level the scores some four minutes before added time to earn the Reds a point, something which was a point of pride for the boss.
Flynn continued; "We kept going, I'm so proud of those players and those fans because they've had to witness what I have in those ninety minutes.
"We've all just seen that performance and he's spoiled the game."
