Walsall went into the game in search of what would be a first victory in some seven all-competition outings as their opening-season for had well and truly disappeared over the last few weeks.
Walsall began the game in swift fashion as they were awarded a penalty with just two-minutes on the clock. However, they were unable to take advantage as Bantams stopper Harry Lewis produced a fine save to deny Danny Johnson.
The Saddlers continued to be the better of the two sides, and forced the stopper into another few fine saves, with the match seemingly going into the break all-square.
But, unfortunately for the Saddlers, their lack of cutting edge was soon punished y their patient hosts as, with four minutes of the half remaining, former Red Andy Cook put his side into the lead, before Jake Young crashed the ball home with a well-taken strike four minutes later.
Walsall were able to halve the deficit some twelve minutes into the second half as captain Donervon Daniels poked the ball over the line, a well-deserved goal for both the skipper and team as a whole.
