Walsall Head Coach Michael Flynn has spoken ahead of this weekend's trip to Rodney Parade and insisted he is focused on the task at hand and not distracted by the idea of a return to his hometown.
Flynn spent some four-and-a-half years with the Exiles and led them to two Play-Off Finals before making the unexpected move to the Saddlers during a difficult 2021/22 campaign.
After opening their campaign with a tremendous four-nil triumph over Hartlepool United, the Saddlers go into the game sitting at the top of the table and will be looking to build upon the result as they travel to South Wales.
Speaking to the club's official website, Flynn said; "I’m professional and I want the three points, it’s not about me.
"I had nearly five fantastic seasons at Newport, it was my first role in management. I lived there, I was born and bred there and it will be the first time in my lifetime that I’ve wanted them to lose.
"It will be nice to see some old faces, the likes of Nigel Stephenson, Norman Parcell and the players – it will be great to see them.
"The fans, I’m sure I’ll get a bit of stick but hopefully they’ll remember all the good things that myself and Wayne did for the football club and after the weekend, I wish them nothing but good luck."
