Walsall have completed the permanent signing of Cheltenham Town goalkeeper Owen Evans, who has put pen to paper on a two-year deal after the two clubs came to terms on an as-yet-undisclosed agreement.
25-year-old Evans was the Robins' first choice 'keeper for much of last season, as he started twenty-seven of their forty-six games in League One before being replaced between the sticks by Scott Flinders.
The Newport-born stopper first joined Cheltenham on loan from Wigan Athletic in January 2020 after Flinders, who has since joined Mansfield Town, suffered a broken leg.
Spending the first half of the campaign with Macclesfield Town, Evans started eleven league matches and along with the Robins' Play-Off semi-finals against Northampton Town, even saving a penalty during the first leg.
He then returned to Wigan for the 2020/21 season but made only one league appearance for the Latics before returning to Cheltenham last summer, signing a two-year deal.
Speaking via the club's official website, Head Coach Michael Flynn was delighted to add Owen to his squad, he said; "Owen is a very talented goalkeeper.
"He’s played in League One with Cheltenham, good experience with Wigan, been with Wales U21s and has the potential to kick on. He showed a real desire to come to the football club and is eager to do well."
