Walsall arrived at the match on the back of a welcome win over Port Vale, and in search of three more points as they hoped to end the season with as many points as possible.
The match got off to a slow start with the teams looking to find space in their respective opposition's final third, though there was eventually a goal as Freddie Sears was only too happy to slam the ball home following yet more dithering in the Walsall box.
Walsall didn't allow themselves to feel too downhearted and went on to level the scores around five-minutes before half-time as Brendan Kiernan netted his sixth goal of the campaign to level the scores.
The Saddlers weren't done there as, with just two minutes of the second-half played, on-loan Barnsley forward George Miller netted his twelfth goal of the season to put the Reds into the lead.
All of the Saddlers' good work was soon undone as the home side were awarded a penalty dome eight-minutes later with Freddie Sears stepping up and converting from the spot.
