Walsall arrived at the match on the back of a welcome win over Hartlepool United, a result which not only saw them record their third win in four league games, but also maintain a healthy gap over the relegation zone.
And, as the must-win fixtures continue to mount, they went into the match in search of three more points and a continuation of their recent return to form.
The match didn't start too well for the Saddlers as they were a goal behind within four minutes of the game getting underway as Mitchell Pinnock took advantage of Carl Rushworth's poor goal-kick to put the ball into the back of the net.
The Saddlers didn't allow the Cobblers to pull too far away, and after avoiding conceding another goal for the remainder of the first-half, were able to get back on level terms five minutes into the second forty-five as Conor Wilkinson grabbed his seventh of the campaign.
