Pre-Match News & Views
After seeing their last three games called off as COVID made its way through their opposition squads, the Saddlers are scheduled to return to action this weekend as they play host to Newport County on New Year's Day.
With a welcome win over Colchester United to build upon, Matt Taylor's men will be looking to secure a second win on the bounce - a feat which they are yet to manage in the league so far this season - and move yet closer to the coveted Play-Off places.
As the team has been able to focus their efforts on training along with shaking off the odd knock, the gaffer may have a bumper team to select from as he seeks to begin 2022 with a win.
Opponents, Newport County, have also enjoyed a match-free festive period but will arrive at the match on the back of a disappointing defeat as they slipped to a three-nil defeat at the hands of mid-table Rochdale back on 18th December.
The defeat to Dale, their first in five league games, will give the Exiles extra incentive as they visit the Banks's on Saturday afternoon as they look to avoid another reverse, and potentially the loss of their place in the Play-Off places.
Head to Head
There have also been seventeen draws over the history of the fixture, a history which began at Fellows Park on Saturday, 8th October 1927 as the two sides met in a Division Three (South) clash which Newport won by three-goals-to-nil.
