Matthew Taylor 'Really Pleased' as Walsall Return to Winning Ways

Matthew Taylor spoke to the local press following the Saddlers' League Two clash with Port Vale.
Speaking after his side earned their first win in four all-competition games, Taylor admitted he was pleased to see his side secure all three points, in what was a commanding awayday display.

Heading into the game on the back of a goalless draw with Rochdale, Taylor's side outplayed their opponents, who are managed by former club manager Darrell Clarke, and deservedly secured the win.

With the only goal of the game coming via winger Brendan Kiernan, the 29-year-old's third of the season, hosts Port Vale failed to register a single shot on target, as the Saddlers' backline stood firm.

Taking place in front of over 1,500 of the travelling faithful, Walsall entered a superb performance to return to winning ways, with the result seeing the team climb into the top half of the League Two table.

Speaking to the assembled media, Matthew said; "It was really good. They all did their jobs. They worked extremely hard, physically, and I thought we were strong and powerful.

"We overpowered the opposition from minute one. I'm really pleased we've been able to come away with what I would call the complete away performance.

"We've limited the opposition to zero shots on goal. That tells me we're doing something right in terms of our shape and structure.

"The desire to want to defend our goal is becoming stronger. So, I'm really, really pleased with the performance.

"What we showed was a real doggedness and desire. The players are listening and learning. I'm extremely proud of each and every one of them."
