Pre-Match News & Views

After seeing their unbeaten run come to an end via a duo of defeats, including last weekend's 3-1 loss at home to Harrogate Town, Matthew Taylor's Saddlers will be keen to return to winning ways when they welcome Rochdale to the Banks's this weekend.

Backed up by an increased attendance - this weekend's match is another of the community programme's School Parters games - the Reds can ill afford another defeat as they look to avoid slipping back towards the dropzone after making a massive amount of progress during an unbeaten October.

Opponents Rochdale, who are managed by Robbie Stockdale, are in fine form having avoided defeat in any of their last five league games.

They'll arrive at the match on the back of a midweek FA Cup - First Round replay victory over Notts County, which may give the Saddlers a fitness advantage as they enjoyed an extra day off having already secured their place in the next round of the tournament.

Head to Head

Walsall and Rochdale have met on sixty-five previous occasions, and it's the Saddlers who are on the back foot having secured just twenty-three victories compared to Rochdale's twenty-six.

There have also been sixteen draws over the history of the fixture, a history which began on Saturday, 24th December 1921, and saw the Dale ease to a more than comfortable seven-nil Division Three (North) win.

Man in the Middle

The EFL has confirmed that Sam Purkiss, who is based in London, will be the man in the middle, whilst Johnathon Bickerdike and Matthew Parry have been named assistant referees. Mark Jones will act as Fourth Official.
