Walsall Head Coach Matthew Taylor has confirmed that forward Conor Wilkinson missed Saturday's 1-0 win over Sutton United through injury.

Wilkinson, who joined the club on a free transfer from Leyton Orient in the summer, sat out the whole of September but recently returned to action, making four appearances and scoring one goal.

However, during a recent training session, the 26-year-old tweaked his calf, and was forced to miss the trip to Gander Green Lane, where Tyrese Shade came off the bench to secure all three points.

Taylor, who has guided his team through seven unbeaten games, insisted the injury isn't serious but didn't go into any further details as Conor begins on the road to recovery.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Matthew said; "Conor unfortunately tweaked his calf. I don’t think it’s serious, but it kept him out of today’s game.

"The harsh reality of football is that while Conor wasn’t here, someone else got an opportunity to play.

"We’re very fortunate that I was able to bring good players into the football club to make sure we have competition for places all over the pitch."
