Walsall arrived at the match on the back of a Conor Wilkinson-powered one-nil win over Stevenage - a result which saw them secure their first victory of the league season - and in search of three more points.
Opponents Bradford City had endured two defeats on the bounce - one to Leyton Orient last weekend along with an EFL Trophy slip up against Lincoln City - ad were keen to steady the ship as they welcomed the Saddlers to Valley Parade.
After a busy start to the game, which saw both sides create goal-scoring opportunities, it was the home side who ultimately took the lead as Elliot Watt slammed the ball home on the half-volley following a poorly-cleared corner.
Despite their opponents' occasional spells of dominance, it was the Saddlers who would go on to grab the second goal of the game as Jack Earing swept Brendan Kiernan's lovely cross into the back of the net.
