Walsall arrived at the match in search of both their first win of the 2021/22 campaign and their first goal, as they had failed to hit the target in either of their opening two games.
The visitors started the game brightly and were able to go into the lead around halfway through the first-half as Matty Stevens headed the ball home from close range following Jamille Matt's bicycle kick.
Walsall's woes weren't done there, as the visitors went on to grab their second and third goals during the closing stages of the half as Jamille Matt slammed home before Stevens was gifted his second of the game from the penalty spot during injury time.
Walsall went on to grab a consolation deep into second-half injury time as summer signing Brendan Kiernan found the back of the net, The Saddlers' first goal of the campaig.
