Played in front of a bumper crowd at a wet and windy Prenton Park, the Superwhites and Saddlers opened their 2021/22 campaign with a competitive and eventually fractious affair.
The were several opportunities for both sides during a competitive opening forty-five, but, sadly for Walsall, the visitors were able to take the only opportunity that counted as Callum McManaman put his team into the lead with seventeen minutes of the game remaining.
The latter stages of the second-half was filled with poor tackles, bookings and a straight red card leaving the hosts to park the bus for the final stages as they secured the win leaving Matthew Taylor's Saddlers to head home without a point.
