Huddersfield Town Striker Kieran Phillips Joins on a Season-Long Loan

The Saddlers have unveiled their ninth signing of the summer as Matthew Taylor continues to shape his side.
Kieran Phillips is set to join the Saddlers.
The Club has confirmed the loan signing of highly-rated Huddersfield Town striker Kieran Phillips, who arrives at the Banks's on a season-long loan.

21-year-old Phillips made his first-team debut for the Terriers back in January and went on to make eleven first-team appearances, ten of which have come in the Championship.

Huddersfield-born Kieran left his boyhood club to join Everton as an apprentice, before he returned to his hometown club permanently last summer after an initial loan move in January 2020.

He went on to pen a new contract, running until 2022, last September, with the Terriers have an option to extend the terms by another year.

Kieran will provide a much-needed option in the Saddlers admittedly slim attacking line, with the former Toffee taking on Conor Wilkinson for a place in the starting XI.

Matthew Taylor spoke to club journalists and highlighted some of Kieran's qualities, insisting he is looking to develop during his time at the Banks’s.

Speaking via the club's official website, Matthew said; "His ability to score goals is something that really attracted us to him. He is an intelligent footballer, and he is a very good finisher.

"He has had exposure with Huddersfield in the first team, so he has had a taste of what it is like to be in a first team and his ambition that he backs himself to come here and score some goals and provide competition at the top of the pitch, so we are extremely pleased to be able to add him to the squad.

"We want to help him, of course we do. We want to help him become a better footballer on the pitch, and we will try our best to do that.

"With players who play at the top of the pitch, the main development is movement, which is already good. We will look to improve his decision-making.

"We want to help his ability to go cold in the real big moments in matches and be relaxed in front of goal.

"I think what he will also find here is that we have a group of players that will also help him, and he will learn from those more experienced players in the building. Our job is to help him, but I am sure he will learn from his fellow teammates as well."

The club had already confirmed the arrival of Conor Wilkinson, Joss Labadie, Manny Monthé, Jack Earing, Brendan Kiernan, Ash Taylor, Zak Mills, and Stephen Ward so far this summer, as the squad continues to take shape.
