The Saddlers suffered their second late defeat in a row as Josh Kay grabbed the only goal of the game three-minutes before second-half stoppage time, punishing the Reds for their drab display.
Securing just one shot on target, the struggling Saddlers once again failed to get among the goals, adding yet another loss to their now eight-game winless run in the process.
Dutton, who recently replaced now-Port Vale boss Darrell Clarke at the helm, is yet to taste victory as Saddlers boss but still believes he is the right man to take the club forward.
Speaking to the assembled media, Dutton said; "It’s a fair question but I feel one-hundred per cent confident in my own ability to take this football club forward.
"It’s never down to me who makes the decision on who is the right man for the football club but I won’t wilt. I’m full of self confidence and I know that given time I will take this club forward to where it needs to be."
When asked if he’s concerned about a relegation battle, the gaffer admitted, with his side securing just one win in their last fourteen games, he has to be, but went on to insist the squad has the quality to got out of trouble.
Dutton added; "You have to be concerned, of course. The form is one win in fourteen now, so you have to be concerned.
"But we have enough quality in this group of lads to move things forward, we just need to get that result on the board to move in the right direction."
