Following the news that he'd joined the club on loan for the remainder of the season, Aston Villa winger Tyreik Wright has spoken of his delight as he gets set for his first spell away from his parent club..
The 19-year-old, who is a right-winger, is Darrell Clarke’s first signing of the January Transfer Window, and gives the gaffer some much-needed width in attack.
Wright has played eleven times in Premier League 2 for the Aston Villa’s Under 23s so far this season, scoring twice against Crystal Palace and Leeds United respectively.
Tyreik also featured in all three group games in this season’s Papa John’s Trophy for the Villains and registered an assist during their 3-1 defeat to Carlisle United.
The teenager also has nine caps and five goals for Republic of Ireland Under 19s and is looking forward to the challenge of playing men’s football and can’t wait to get started at the Banks’s Stadium.
Speaking via the club's official website, Wright said; "I’m absolutely delighted to be here. I just want to thank the gaffer and Walsall for giving me the opportunity to come here on loan.
"I have been waiting a long time for this opportunity and I just can’t wait to get started. It means a lot to me (to be allowed out on loan) to be fair. I want to go out there and showcase my ability and show everyone what I have got.
"Like I say, I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. Playing men’s football will be a huge development in my career and hopefully it is a step towards great things.
"I’ll take my experiences of playing in the EFL Trophy this season because I haven’t played men’s football before but those games are a massive help and they can really help with your career development and I have enjoyed playing in those games."
