Hearts manager Robbie Neilson has spoken to the press and refused to be directly drawn into speculation linking Walsall striker Elijah Adebayo with a move to his club, although the former right-back did confirm his cub is looking for a striker.
When asked about Elijah, Neilson, who was speaking via the Scotsman, said; "I don't want to speak about players contracted to other teams.
The table-topping Tynecastle club are in pursuit of a new striker as they look to return to the Scottish Premiership and have identified Elijah as a potential new recruit despite having a recent bid rejected.
As they look to secure promotion from League Two the Saddlers are reluctant to let 23-year-old Adebayo, who is the current top scorer with eight goals, leave in January despite his contract expiring at the end of the current campaign.
Meanwhile, the Edinburgh club remain hopeful that a deal for Adebayo can be reached with Neilson seemingly content with to secure his services either now or in the summer when he becomes a free agent.
"We have a list of players we are looking to get in and we have a profile of the striker we are looking to bring into the club. We will continue to work on that.
"There are two or three targets we are pushing who fit the profile. Hopefully we can get it over the line. I said at the start [of the month] that I would like to get one in but it has to be the right one.
"I don’t to bring someone in who is just another number in the squad. We have to bring quality that is going to take the squad forward."
