Heading into the match on the back of their Boxing Day defeat to Salford City, the Saddlers were looking to return to winning ways as they welcomed Scunthorpe United to the Black Country.
Annoyingly for the Saddlers they were unable to give an immediate response to last weekend's defeat as they fell behind after twenty-minutes of play as Myles Hippolyte put the visiting Iron into the lead.
The match reached the break with Scunthorpe in the lead however, Walsall would go on to get the game back on level terms as winger Wes McDonald grabbed his third of the season ten minutes into the second forty-five.
The Saddlers should have put themselves ahead later in the half as they were awarded a spot-kick which was taken by Josh Gordon and saved by goalkeeper Mark Howard. Walsall were soon punished for their penalty miss as Alex Gilliead put the visitors back into the lead with twenty minutes of play remaining.
