Walsall manager Darrell Clarke spoke to the local press following Tuesday evening's one-nil victory over Crawley Town and praised his team as they returned to winning ways.
The match, which saw player/ coach Mat Sadler net his first goal of the season to secure the points for his side, was a competitive affair with both teams looking to grab three crucial points.
The Saddlers arrived at the match without the likes of Josh Gordon, James Clarke, Danny Guthrie and George Nurse but were able to call upon some of the fringe players as they secured their third win of the league season.
Among the players to be called in to the side was Sadler who, gave the manager a welcome selection headache as he entered a solid match-winning display to stake his claim for a place in the team to take on Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup at the weekend.
Speaking to the assembled media, Darrell said; "It’s a good win isn’t it. Any win at any level is a good win. It was an end-to-end game with chances for both teams.
"It was two good teams having a good go and testament to us, we had four key players out of the starting eleven tonight with injuries.
"I’ve said it all along, this season will be more of a squad game than any other season. They applied themselves very well.
"They’re on a run of four wins from the last five so we knew we were in for a real tough test.
"We kept digging in and got the goal from a set piece which is nice, we need to score more from set pieces. And the old boy Mat Sadler, my player-coach, has got the winner."
