Walsall manager Darrell Clarke has insisted his players will not be leaving the club on the cheap as clubs continue to add to their squads ahead of the domestic Deadline Day.
Under Clarke the Saddlers have enjoyed an unbeaten start to their 2020/21 League Two campaign and head into Saturday's clash with Colchester United in search of more welcome points.
After retaining the vast majority of his mid-table finishing 2019/20 squad before adding five more players over the summer, the Mansfield-born manager is not expected to add any more to his squad.
With the window set to close on Friday, 16th October Clarke is determined to keep his squad together but admits the club may be forced into selling as the ongoing Covid-19 crisis continues to see income flatline.
Speaking to the Express & Star's Walsall correspondent Liam Keen, Darrell first praised goalkeeper Liam Roberts for his display last weekend before turning his attention to any clubs looking to snatch his players.
Darrell, who has already seen striker Josh Gordon targeted by Burton Albion, said; "He’s growing and he got us a point. Maik Taylor is doing tremendous work with him and we’ll keep trying to improve Liam, as well as all our players.
"We certainly don’t want to be losing players but we are Walsall, this is no disrespect, even at the top clubs every player has a price.
"I certainly also know my chairman and I know we’re struggling financially, but we won’t be easy cannon fodder. Certainly people won’t be picking our players up for nothing, let’s put it that way."
